Reference complete, what's next?

Hi everyone,

This is my first time using OpenRent, so I’m still figuring out how everything works.

My potential tenants have finished their reference checks, and I’d like to move forward with the contract, but I can’t seem to find that option anywhere on my listing. I’ve also requested the holding deposit from both tenants, but I’m not sure if they’ve done anything on their side yet.

I’m a bit stuck at the moment and not sure what to do next. Has anyone been through this before or knows what I should do?

To be honest, its normally very obvious, so Im confused what screens you are looking at.

I assume you haven’t done referencing via OR, as this would normally be done after the holding deposit is paid, and after OR referencing, their screens guide you through the process to make a decision and accept & proceed or to decline them.

On your tenant enquiry page, the button to ‘request holding deposit’ is in plain sight alongside the messaging chat you will have had with them. If you click this, and the tenant pays the holding deposit, you’ll get a message on the screen which again guides you through accepting it and either referencing or going straight to contract, or declining the holding deposit.

It doesn’t look like the applicants have placed a holding deposit on your listing yet - you can request one here:

Alternatively, the applicants can go to your listing and press the green “Rent Now” button.

We’ll email you with instructions on how to proceed from there and you’ll be able to link up the completed references.
