Rental refusal due to having pets

I recently applied to rent a property in Forfar. In the advert it states that “pets are allowed.” The deposit was increased to £1,200 due to pets being allowed. !?!

We were refused and application cancelled due to me having pets.??

I have mental health disorders and my pets are massively important as they help give me a purpose in my life.

I never used to leave my house but since getting a dog I’m able to do that now. My two cats help with my anxiety and depression when they snuggle up with me, calming my stress levels down.

I can’t see any way to get in contact with them because, it stated I could no longer message because they cancelled my application :cry:

Any help or advice would greatly be appreciated.

It’s unfortunate but they have made their decision and you are better off just accepting and moving on. It’s entirely the landlords prerogative.

Deposits are capped at 5 weeks rent which would only be £923 in this case. It’s possible they may have realised this afterwards and decided against pets due to this limitation as it places a higher risk on landlord, especially with their being both 2 cats and a dog. Although they have said they are happy with pets, they may be thinking just one.

You should put your efforts into finding another property.

As Mark says, just move on and look for another property
