Continuing the discussion from Landlord who has lost faith in finding genuine tenants on Openrent:
I completely and utterly agree with Mark 55. No one listens at OR. Mark’s comments and responses are like I wrote them myself - and more to the point I have done directly to OR.
I also started out with Adam Hyslop (founder) and actually gave him advice in the beginning when setting up the app of things he should include from a Landlords perspective. He listened then….
imo: Listen to your custom base - adapt fast or lose your business!! that’s basic business sense!!
I will be going with an agent next time unless things change fast. Sorry to say! -
Openrent was great in the beginning, no doubt, but there are serious flaws now unfortunately. I have even tried to help and offer my services for free but no one listens. Auto responses are super frustrating and, to a point, insulting quite frankly - like OR thinks we have no experience after 25years of renting properties???
Zero response from Adam himself when I have repeatedly tried to contact him and let him know his business is effectively in trouble.
You can lead a horse to water etc etc ….
Is there really a housing crisis or a governmental policy crisis??? lots of good landlords following the rules sitting empty - endless bad landlords taking cash and raking it in from what I hear from the extremely few tenants that view my properties….
We know it’s a problem the licencing teams know it’s a problem and no back up!!
I recently had terrible tenants through OR - did the referencing through OR - turns out they had several CCJ’s, Thames Water after them for unpaid bills and 2 other councils after them for unpaid council tax. None of which were flagged by OR referencing!!
I had to employ an agent to get rid of them. It was a total nightmare. I had my locks changed and stolen in the end. Rubbish and filth left behind, no rent for over two months and my property handed to squatters.
Due to data protection protecting those awful people I can’t let other landlords know who they are or have them banned from Openrent.
I also have the same pointless tenants contacting me on two properties when I’ve rejected them from the other.
Something needs to change fast OR - i’ve been very supportive in the past and want to continue but it’s just becoming a joke … again sorry to say….
Please don’t reply with the avoidance techniques I have experienced personally and witnessed on this thread. Change your system is what we all want to see and I’ll be happy along with many others by the looks of it!
Even when writing this response - one doesn’t even know if it’s posted!! Basic things like this need addressing….
