Hi there, I have a tenant wanting to rent my home under the name Scout Wolf. I thought everything was fine but now they’re asking to pay me privately instead of through OpenRent. I just want to know if anyone has had any dealings with Scout Wolf/ trying to figure out if they’re legit. Thanks!
You need a real name to go ahead. Let them find a home in a wigwam
you have an applicant… and the first thing you do with applicants is check they have Right to Rent. This is a mandatory check and requires you verifying a form of ID. Not doing so could lead to very large fines.
Ask Scout Wolf for some ID.
Sounds v suspicious I’d be inclined to walk away. suppose there are rent arrears? Whom is liable other than the name on contract. If that’s a fake name whom do you claim from. And anybody else living there will be trespassing.
Say you will only rent to ‘Scout Wolf’ if ‘Scout Wolf’ can be verified as a genuine person and you can do referencing inc employment, affordability etc against that name. And you legally need to conduct right to rent checks against the actual name on the contract by law. And you cant legally allow anyone without proof of id and proof of right to rent to live there
Say you will only accept payment through openrent explain this is for tax purposes and tenant’s protection
Id think they want to pay to you direct to steal your bank details as part of id theft or benefit fraud to pretend they are renting from you, and you would never receive a penny
