Simple Ways to Make a Rental Property Feel More Like Home

I think small interior improvements can make a real difference to how a rental property looks and feels. Not every improvement needs to involve major renovations or a large budget.

Curtains are one example. Choosing the right curtains and curtain poles can improve privacy, help control natural light and make a room look more finished. Neutral colours and simple designs are often versatile enough to suit different furniture styles.

For landlords, practical and durable window fittings can also be worth considering, particularly in properties that are rented out regularly. For tenants, removable accessories and carefully chosen soft furnishings can help personalise a space without making permanent changes.

Other simple ideas include using mirrors to make rooms feel brighter, adding lamps for softer lighting and keeping decorations coordinated.

I’d be interested to hear from other landlords and tenants: What affordable changes have made the biggest difference to the appearance or comfort of your rental property?

Worth using AI to ‘dress’ photos of empty rooms in a property so prospective tenants can visualize, but unless you want a quick rotation of tenants, why not let them personalize their home - they have to live there and may have different taste to you

They will have their own taste in what rugs, pictures (if you have hooks for these), plants etc they like, and if they can make small changes to make it how they want, they are more likely to stay.
