If it’s a standard short assured tenancy then usually not.

Why don’t you just give up the tenancy if you don’t want to live there any more.

As mentioned above, it would depend on what is stated in your tenancy agreement, if no, you could ask your landlord directly if you could (temporarily) sublet their property, it might be in your favour to introduce the person that has agreed to the let with you to your landlord, so they can do the necessary checks to make sure they would be happy to let to them and potentially add them to your assured tenancy agreement.

This would be the most prudent way to go about it if the duration of the sublet is the length of your tenancy or less. Ultimately, as the main tenant, you will be responsible for the rent, particularly if your subletter doesn’t or stops paying.
