Tracking payment

Hi

My tenant is outstanding £74 on the initial deposit and 1st months payment. Wakefield Council tell me that they have paid this on their behalf (they have an assistance scheme to help people into rental’s). How I can check if you have received this, it’s now been a week since the council have said they paid it.

Thanks

Why don’t you ask the Council for proof of payment. Ask them to confirm the sort code / account number & ref number they quoted / amount & date sent.

The “Amount Outstanding” you see on the OpenRent dashboard (“Awaiting Final Balance Payment”) is updated in real-time.

I can see the £74 is still outstanding, and if that changed the screen would update immediately. We’d also email you to inform you the final balance has been received.

As @Karl11 says, you’ll need to find out why the council haven’t made the final balance payment yet or ask the tenants to pay the final balance directly.

@Daz the council have said they’ve paid it. I’ve asked my contact at the council for date, account and ref from them. They don’t send a remittance for the 1st months rent so I’ve had to go on their verbal confirmation.

If the tenants paid the outstanding, then the monies arrived in your account would you still transfer the excess payment?

If you have rent collection enabled and the money landed after the tenancy started, then it would go towards the next month’s rent.

If you don’t have rent collection enabled then I believe any inbound payments would be automatically returned (as you’d expect).

I’m afraid either the council are mistaken (ie. the money hasn’t been sent), or it’s been sent somewhere else (ie. they input incorrect bank details), as I can see no inbound payment from them for your property. As you can see from the other payments, they are handled automatically, without delay, and are dated to show when exactly they arrived.
