Experiences anyone?
I used them for a Gas safety Cert in Nottingham and a local gas engineer ‘bid’ his price of £110, he was good and did a proper strip down of a Worcester Bosch when I said boiler occasionally mis-fired when he visited.
Identified an electrode corrosion/deposits and rectified issue. I later called him direct for 3 other GSC’s @ £80 per visit.
Son used above site for an short notice EICR on a 2 bed house on a weekend in Birmingham - £99 for EICR and £125 for small remedial work to get up to standard and pass the property for renting out.(on a 2nd visit). EICR arrived following monday.
I was amazed, but it was a 5 year old installation so pretty much all up to spec anyway, Rewired, New C/U, fittings etc.
One can try out Tradepersons in your local area and keep their details for later if good quality?
Myconstructor is a bit hit and miss but definitely a better experience than booking similar through OR. No online system for booking trades in infallable. At least there are reviews available but even those you need to take with a pinch of salt. The majority of people booking trades for GSC or EICR have no clue what they are actually paying for nor the minimum service they should be receiving. Sounds like you might have got lucky.
@Ray12 haven’t used myconstructor but have used checkatrade and mybuilder. It’s helpful to be able to see reviews because people do post when things go wrong but most small traders don’t appear at all on trustpilot. If a trader has 100plus reviews all positive over several years its better than another trader where half the reviews are 1*. But I do pay attention to the 1*s too
And yes once you find someone good of course you hang on to their details and use them again
The other alternative worth considering is BG homeserve (or similar - often by D&G insurance) where you get the annual service plus boiler breakdown cover for not much more than the cost of an annual service. Worth considering If you don’t have landlord insurance covering this esp if a boiler is old/out of warranty. (I used this for a 12y baxi boiler which lasted another 17 y with few probs)
It it so difficult to leave an actual negative review that it renders the entire review system almost pointless imo. (On checkatrade at least, though I expect them all to work in a similar way).

When you consider the fact the whole business model is based on relying on tradespeople paying for advertising space, and if they get many poor reviews they would come off the site, then it’s not difficult to understand why.
