Why so hard to rent?

Someone tell me why it’s so hard as retired and in benefits to rent

Landlords have a lot of choice, with many applicants per property.

There’s a rental property shortage partially due to many being sold by landlords because of tough legislation and increased costs.

Social landlords STILL allowed to sell off their stock. !!

Think it’s much harder once you retire and go on benefits landlords want either lots rent in advance or guarantor neither of you are retired and on low income are easy

Not with me it is I just want a nice kind person who can pay the rent a couple of people have been miserable and rude

So in addition to affordability test you also have a tenant kindness test?

A kindness test not a bad thing when you look at the state of the world over the last 50 years.

I think basic manners can be a good indication, so many dont have any

Another example of the government getting it wrong on housing. They have made it so unappealing to be a landlord many have left the market thus reducing supply. Those landlords left can choose their tenant and would rather have one with a regular income that one who relies on the whim of the council to pay. The council can also claw back paid rent from the landlord if it transpires it has be paid out fraudulantly.

Yes I can see that however it’s extremely frustrating for someone who is on benefits to try get properties

Who’s likely to be a tenant in this new government

At least there are landlords on the House of Lords who are delaying RRB

Unfortunately the government has a majority so all ammendmemts are likely to be ignored

I will take someone on benefits if they are a nice caring person people on high rate pip and employmant and support allowance can be making £400 a week so if you need a flat send me a message a working person could lose their job they can also claim Housing Benefit of another £400 a month on top so that’s £500 a week some people in work are not on that

Well you don’t want someone rude and horrible which has happened to me in the past I have had a man in who was on high rate PIP and Employmant and support Allowance with the Housing Benefit he was on a lot more money than people in work so anyone reading this I have a flat and I am open to someone struggling

Someone tell me why when the benefits claimant who is given money from the taxpayer (LL pay a lot of tax) but then fraudulently does not pay the rent but spends it on a tattoo or similar can do this without any repercussions form the Govt.

Lynette1 ……According to you they are not struggling as they are bringing in more money than someone who is working. So make your mind up,!

Hope you are well.
I’m looking for a new home at the moment, a 2 bedroom preferably. If you don’t mind me asking, where is the flat you’re renting?
(I’m new to OpenRent and not sure how to privately message so I apologise if I wasn’t supposed to enquire here.)
