A friend lives in a flat in a block of 8 or so. There are 3 joined communal smoke alarms, one on each floor. They are hardwired and all connected, with a backup battery each. One of them is beeping as battery needs changing. The management company are dragging heals in getting someone out, even though the beeping is keeping some people up. They have said if anyone changes battery other than someone they appoint it will invalidate insurance.
Do you think this is likely to be the case? My gut says they just want to make a few quid at every opportunity.
