Contacting new landlord

Can I contact my tenants new landlord after they move out if I was not asked for a reference. I think tenants lied about their previous address to new landlord and deliberately damaged property prior to leaving. Have paid late for over a year and been terrible tenants. Tenants blacked out new address on their new tenancy agreement, but left landlords name in view. Was sent a.copy of this as proof they were moving out.

I suppose you could contact the new ll if you know their details however the tenant will just say that its you that has a problem with them and your the reason they left
Personally if theyve moved out then take that as a victory and concentrate on finding another new decent tenant

If I were the new landlord, I wouldn’t want to know if they had already moved in, as the horse has already bolted.

You could get into trouble for doing this, so be very careful.

Is it breaking the law to tell the truth?

It depends. The statement made has to be very carefully worded because If you cant prove it, it may be defamation or slander. It could also be a breach of GDPR. Its essentially the reason why no-one has risked setting up a bad tenant database.

Photographs are always good proof and I wouldn’t be giving any personal data so there wouldn’t be a beach of GDPR.

I would want to know so I could issue a S.21 first time they play up. Also, they prob lied about their previous tenancy as we have not been asked for a ll check.
