Council Paying - how to pay holding deposit

I work for a local authority, how can we pay a holding deposit when we have no debit card available?

Can the tenant pay on their card if you give them the money?

No sadly not, we have a policy of not paying any money directly to a customer.

Can’t you pay the landlord directly ?

Which local Authority do you work for? Has this situation never arisen until now ?

In which case, if the Landlord is using Openrent RentNow, then I cant see a solution. To pay the Landlord directly, as suggested above, would require them not to use RentNow, but they may prefer to use this automated system, rather than sort all of the admin themselves.

If the landlord is amenable, Pay the landlord directly, and he can use his own credit card for Rent now.

Hi, most of the time landlords are happy for us to pay them directly, it just seems a little odd that OpenRent choose to make payment methods so restrictive.

Its a fraud prevention process. OR might be restrictive in this regard, but so are you with your policy of not just giving the deposit to the tenant so that they can pay it.

If you don’t trust the tenant enough to do that, then as a Landlord, I would definitely not trust them.

Run for the hills Landlord.
