Do I need to renew EICR before 5 years?

I know that the law requires to do EICR every 5 years, however the electrician who has issued EICR certificate for me in 2021 stated that it is valid for 3 years only, despite installation was in good condition.

Do I need to renew it now as 3 years expire term expire next month or I wait another two?

Needs to be done based on the term that’s on there. Electrician has discretion.
So needs doing after 3 years in this instance.

If hes put 3 years on the cert you have to go with that. I wouldnt use him again if there was no reason for this.

One reason why I attend when an EICR is done and check the validity the electrician is planning to add before they do it. I had one electrician give it a year’s validity for no reason. Didn’t use him again!

The only reason to give 1 year is poor IR test results, to monitor any further reduction of the installation. For periods less than 5 years the inspecting spark really needs to give a reason to justify the period , in writing, on the EICR

No it isn’t. The other reason is to keep the EICR gravy train running.

Then do NOT use them. 1 years without written reasons is unacceptable and don’t pay their bill

er…

It was an agent who arranged that EICR while I was out of the country. I noticed it when I got the paperwork via email and as it was the first EICR I’d ever had done, I didn’t think to check the date at the time.

Takeaway: I no longer need to be told how to suck eggs in this context

I would formally complain to the agent. He is complicit and should know about the 5 year retest
