Hi
I have recently got a query about electrical fuse box units. Do they have to be of metal or is it now just a recommendation?
How can a metal fuse box be safe? Metal is conductive?

Metal boxes were in years ago . Then it was said plastic ones are safer. Now it is said metal ones are better . So were we lied to years ago or now?? New jobs metal …Plastic still ok with correct trips
A plastic consumer unit with no signs of damage is a C3
The earths are all connected to the box to the metal case should never become live
The idea behind a metal box is that it is more likely to prevent a small smouldering internal fire from getting worse. Being a sealed unit the flame is more likely to be starved of oxygen and burn itself out, whereas it could melt through a plastic box.
