Extension of contract

My tenant is just coming to the end of a 12 month AST contract. She wants to continue renting which is fine by me. I assume we can just run the existing agreement as a periodic contract. However she paid the first 6 months rent in advance and then subsequently has been paying rent monthly and will continue to do so in the future. Will it be seen that the periodic contract is of a monthly nature with the appropriate notice terms. Thanks for any advise. David T
