Gas safety certificate

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some help.

My partner and I have rented a property for the past 2 years. We weren’t aware that the tenants need to be provided with a gas safety certificate at the beginning of the tenancy.

We were never given one, therefore my question is whether I can still ask for a gas safety certificate for the first year of the tenancy which started in September 2018 (we have had an inspection in December 2019 and that certificate runs out in 12 month).

I don’t see why not. I should think most landlords would keep the paperwork or they could contact the gas engineer who did the inspection and ask them for a copy.

If you have the current gas safety certificate ,why would you want the expired one?
