Help with Tenant Referencing Report Missing Credit Report & Income Showing as £0

Hi everyone,

I’m going through the referencing process on OpenRent and have run into a few issues I’m hoping someone can advise on

  1. I uploaded my Equifax credit report directly, but for some reason the system says “no credit report found.”
  2. For the income section, I only entered details about a new job I’ll be starting in a week. I didn’t include my savings or details from my previous job (I couldn’t find an option for that but the landlord says otherwise)
  3. Because of that, my reference report ended up showing income as £0. The landlord then told me it should be possible to include my previous job (and ideally savings too) so the report reflects my affordability more accurately.

My question is: does anyone know how I can get my tenant reference report updated to include my previous employment and savings? Do I need to contact OpenRent directly, or is there a way to resubmit the form?

Any advice would be really appreciated!

If you have left your ‘previous employment’, and haven’t yet started your ‘new employment’, then your income is zero. It’ll be whether the Landlord is willing to override this by you providing to them details / proof of your new job. This isn’t your job yet, so wont be covered by the referencing report.

Your savings are also irrelevant to the reference process. Again, if the Landlord wishes to consider these, as a reason to overrule any reference report, then that is their choice.

Finally, the referencing process searches the file of a credit reference agency. I cant imagine where the system would have asked you to upload any personally obtained copy of your credit file. I suspect the ‘can’t find credit file note’, might refer to them not being able to find records of you when they search the credit reference agencies. Have you filled in your correct name, DOB & recent address history correctly?

Hi @Hemadri,

There’s a couple of reasons why your credit report might not have been found, this is usually due to discrepancies between what you’ve submitted during referencing and what Equifax holds on file for you. This could also be attributed to not having built a credit record in the UK yet.

We won’t count savings towards the affordability assessment - these could be there one day and gone the next. We’ll rely on proof of regular income that lasts the duration of the tenancy, meaning we also won’t ask about previous jobs.

I’ll drop you a message via our customer service email to help you out further here and let you re-try parts of your reference.
