Indesit Washing Machine in first floor flat

Hi, I bought an Indesit washing machine from AO which was installed by the builder who also installed my kitchen. Since day 1 this machine has moved around ALOT during the spin cycle. The young tenants didn’t report it and by the time the lady downstairs spoke to me it was too late as the warranty is no longer in date. Should I move it? (which will involve changing the plumbing) or buy a new one? Would anyone recommend a washing machine to go on a wooden floor in a first floor flat? I have been told washing machines are built to go on concrete floors which is not something I can change. I’d like to sort this problem, can anyone help?

I assume if the lady downstairs has raised this, then the machine is also noisy? Have you checked that it was correctly installed - ie transit bolts removed?, so that the machines suspension can work effectively.

As noted by Karl111, this is the most likley cause of the problem in my view/experience but I would be very surprised if a competent installer made this error. Other issues may be that the machine is not sitting level on the floor (normally at least two of the feet are adjustable in height), that the tenants are mostly putting in loads that the washing machines finds very difficult to distribute the weight of in the drum such as towels or thick/heavy items of clothing. This can also be a problem if there a only a few items in the machine.

I put w/mach on a 600 x 600mm piece of carpet to help deaden the sound below

The lady downstairs has raised this as the building wobbles when the spin cycle is on, she did not mention the noise. There are new people above and they said that when the spin cycle is on their glasses in the kitchen wobble. They did not mention the noise either.

Oh and yes. The transit bolts were removed. I have also installed a mat underneath the washing machine. AO will not come and see it but they told me I should get a quote for them to consider and possibly pay part of. Unfortunately, the Indesit phone line goes dead when I try to call. They have recently been taken over and I have heard they are in a bit of a mess as a company…

The problem is the vibration of the machine as it is causing the whole building to vibrate (sound is not an issue).

AS Nilesh has said .Likely uneven loading and spinning or too much in it.

You should pop around there and see if the machine moves when you push it gently. If so, the feet need adjusting until it doesn’t rock any more. If that is not the problem, the its likely that the tenant is overloading the machine. You would need to give clear instruction.

To be sure that the transit bolts have actually been removed, open the door and push the drum backwards and release. The drum is held by springs and you should be able to push it back a good 2 inches and when you release it will spring back into place.
