Landlord wants my phone number before viewing but the big yellow warning comes up for phishing scam

Should I give my number to prospective landlord or no? I was about to but then the warning came up. I don’t know what to do! I don’t want to offend them at all, just a bit scared from that message.

@Lisa88

If you contacted them first they aren’t phishing you?

You can ask OR support why the message came up?

If you are trying to arrange a viewing they probably want it so they can speak to you and /or so if they are running late for the viewing they can tell you. Why not agree to provide if they will give you theirs (for the same reasons). You can always block them anyway if you need to.

Openrent encourages all comms on its platform which does protect people as everything then written down but it’s not very practical for viewings people can be late but not be constantly logged onto the OpenRent platform etc.

Take someone with you to the viewing if you are nervous.

Good luck

The landlord can view your telephone number anyway on the portal by clicking the request contact details button

As Karl said, LL doesn’t need your permission. They click on “Request contact details” and get both your phone and e-mail. Not sure why OR still gives this warning while making these details readily available anyway.
