New to renting in the UK

I recently arrived in this country with my family. Both my husband and i are working and looking for accommodation for our family (2 kids). Its been tough to get accommodation and its quite depressing. Are there any tips on how to get a rental easier or quicker? I feel like being a foreigner is my
biggest disadvantage. Back in my country i own a house, this experience has taught me to appreciate my tenant more!

Welcome to the UK. If you are liasing directly with landlords, have proof of funds lined up, references, and proof of employment. Unfortunately the UK has a housing crisis and in truth deep pockets do not guarantee a home. Also, register with all letting agencies and call them regularly or pop in to see them. Properties do become available off rightmove so it’s also worth joint Facebook for your local area. Other than that, there isn’t really much that you can do. If you see something that you can afford rather than continue to shop around seize it. It’s much easier to be in a rental and look for another (your then landlord can write a glowing reference) rather than be searching for 12 months or longer. Good luck,

Great advice, thanks

Does anyone actually believe current landlords reference? Ll with a bad tenant only ever write a glowing reference to move them on!
