I’ve used Open rent extensively and combined with the referencing it has allowed me to safeguard effectively against potential dud tenants. So far it has been an incredibly valuable tool.
There is however one area that needs improvement. I keep all correspondence within the open rent messaging until I get them onboard as a trusted tenant, (usually then transferring to Whatsapp.)
The ability for the potential tenants to read my message in an email makes the blue tick read receipts in open rent messaging almost redundant. I want to know for sure that they have read my message and that I have at least done all that I can and the ball is then in their court. There is always one iota of doubt when I see the un-ticked box.
As an experiment, I decided to send a further message to some (non-ticked) non-responders just to confirm my suspicion that they had read the message in their junk email but were not interested/scared away by criteria etc. One tenant surprised me by responding- answering all my questions adequately and apologising as the first message had gone to her junk box (which she missed first time round)
I wonder if the website/app could have some kind of update to ensure the messages can only be read on Open rent. It would save any confusion/doubt/messing about.
