Previous Employer Reference

Have a potential tenant who I may proceed with however he has only been in his current job for 1 month. I am unfamiliar with Openrent referencing - will their previous job employer be asked to provide a reference?

Normally, I view an employer reference to be confirming that the applicant is employed & earning, not that they used to be employed & earning. I’m not sure Id be interested in a previous employer reference, and I doubt it would score any points during the referencing process.

That said, I do not know the answer to your question. Sorry.

I agree however they have left what looks like a well paid job and are now working for a much lower salary with a view to getting another job in his previous profession . I would be interested to know from the previous employer if the salary was what he said and also the circumstances of his leaving.

I’m not sure OR will do this. You will have to do this yourself if you want it, as it will make no difference to a reference pass or fail.

I always take up employer references myself using a contact that the applicant provides which I have verified as bona fide (e.g. linked in profile, corporate email address). In this case, I would ask for contacts at both companies to verify the whole story and follow them up myself.
