No. Sounds like an outrageous amount if its just for a new certificate ( comparison costs below).
If theyve done an initial inspection found problems and are now quoting £2000 +VAT to fix then give you a new certificate that’s issue free, that may be more realistic but you should get a proper specification of the work to be done and get alternative quotations, just like any any other works.

It is more than 2x the maximum I’ve payd on half a dozen London properties, so no. Draw your own conclusions. Regulations have changed, I think I had to have some work done in all my properties. It’s not just a matter of reissuing a certificate.
@Howard1 there was a new RCD and EICR 5 years ago. Unless something else is old [eg the place now needs rewiring] then £2,000 for an EICR certificate is way out of line with the costs on checkatrade. With other items could easily be £1,000 as you say, but the certificate itself should not cost anywhere near that amount

Electricians can find fault with other people’s work, they say it was done badly five years ago, and needs to be done again, and of course regs change so it all needs to be done differently. It’s a problem because landlords are easy to rip off with EICR. I don’t have a solution,

@Howard1 absolutely if you dont know a reasonable electrician already it can be a bit of a lottery just like with other trades. Thats why i suggested @Felicity7 asks for recommendations in her area

Surely that price includes required identified remedial work? If it does then it may well be reasonable, multiple quotes is the only way to know.

I would argue that the initial message from OP is not clear enough to be certain if this is the case.

I have amended my initial reply as that’s fair - but even if the £2,000+vat includes remedial work @Felicity7 needs to get a spec for that work (plus a further eicr certificate) and can then get alternative quotes. Always get 3 quotes (unless you do know already from other properties etc what a job should cost) is my rule of thumb

Depends where you are, I just booked mine for £107 - 4 bed property. Company based in Chingford and well known for rental certificates.
