Second tenant failed referencing checks. Should they be removed from tenancy?

Hello
I’m planning to rent to 2 joint tenants. The lead tenant has passed the referencing, but the second one has failed. What is the best option? Asking for a guarantor for second tenant? only name the lead tenant in the contract and only give right of occupation to the second tenant? If the latter, should the lead tenant be checked against the whole rent?
Thanks!

Why has the second tensnt failed referencing? Are they married?

Im also confused about referencing. One of my potential tenants has failed as it says he couldn’t afford it but he’ll only be paying a third of the rent (with the other tenants paying the rest obviously) so surely that’s OK?

can he cover the third? What if the other two leave . Your choice

Give rentguard a call to check. They usually answer the phone pretty quickly.
