I’m reporting this person to trading standards as this is appalling.
Wear and tear ok with singles not a few kids so I will choose the less risk Provided they can meet the rent as I see fit
Its Ok for you I have to padlock the gates now against Trading Standards . Good job my boots are tight so I do not shake in them
They already deleted his first post on discrimination
For someone who alleges he’s knowledgable in the law he makes a lot of mistakes about the law and is more presumumtuous than all of us
£1600 tax free . Any other perks? A gimme society . Gimme some of that discrimination !
Ditto
The article in the telegraph documents people used to be embarrassed about claiming now they feel entitled as see whatever they can get
Money cars where does it end
Yes, such as his/her last post on age discrimination, which doesn’t usually apply to advertising a property to let.
I think we should all stop feeding the troll.
I am with you Out now
How on earth can you say that it doesn’t apply to advertising a property to let if that’s the policy?
Thankfully choice is and always will be a thing.
Guys, I suggest you stop replying to her posts. The more you respond, the longer it will drag. Look how TT are not even interested. The only ones who reply, are LL.
Unless you’re having fun with her, which I’d understand.))
When someone is so far out of touch with reality its impossible not to
Ok, have fun ))))))
I think it’s because someone has brought them down to earth or their legal responsibilities, which clearly they do not like
FYI parental status, ie being a parent, is not a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010, so it won’t be possible to claim discrimination for this particular aspect.
Regarding the comment about why landlords won’t rent one bed properties to families, this is partly due to statutory overcrowding laws that landlords must comply with.
Age is the protected characteristic.
It was a 2 bed flat.
Here is what the bbc reported that ARLA said about landlords who refuse tenancies with children
“The National Residential Landlords Association said it recognised how important pets were to many tenants and that any bans on children reflected “the actions of a minority of rogue landlords”. ROGUE LANDLORDS!!!
You seem to be conflating the two. Yes, age is a protected characteristic but you are arguing about parents of children being discriminated against. That is different from age and therefore cannot be the basis of legal action. The second paragraph of the article you sent says: “There are no laws explicitly stopping this” so I’m not sure how this forum discussion will change that.
Quote from the Shelter website:
“Age, marriage, and being in a civil partnership are also protected characteristics but are not included for discrimination in renting out a home.”
I’m so glad I’ve seen a post like this because I am at a loss.
I have been dealing with this exact issue I have been in my 2 bed rental for 6 years I was diagnosed with MS at 31, and I have to have surgery a lot. I need a second bedroom as I have a carer who regularly needs to stay through the night
When I started here I paid 1050£ per month it’s now £1550.
I am trying to find a property to move to as I have been served a notice as the building has been sold to developers. They have given me 2 months. I’m due surgery next month and would need to find something ground floor or a house that is flat and suitable for my needs. I get a special rate for the second bedroom help.
I have tried 10+ estate agents and letting agents and at this point can’t even get a viewing. Which again is hard work for my to get out the house and view properties as it js. The council have no help they have gone bust and seem to just fob me off.
I am at a loss and so stressed I just don’t know what to do. I’ve heard every excuse, you don’t earn 2x the rent, you don’t work, we have nothing suitable, we can’t put you through referencing because you have this issue, I have one CCJ that shouldn’t be on my account but comes off in July. It’s been 6 years and they won’t even put me through referencing, even though I got a small inheritance and have a good few months upfront, 2 home owner guarantors and I just honestly have given up. It’s sad to see so many landlords on here talking about people on benefits like we are scum. I’m a normal woman, with a normal family but unfortunately for me got a disease which is ruining my life. I can’t do any sports I can’t bend I can’t barely walk now. It’s very sad to see but ahain had the same issues oh we can’t rent to you our insurance doesn’t cover ‘people like you’
And to top this off I actually go through severe and harsh processes to get my benefits they aren’t just given lightly, and it’s garunteeed rent for a landlord as I get signed off for 5 years at a time. I have never ever missed my £1500 rent in 6 years and the other 4 years I was in a flat downstairs to this, always paid on time.
I still don’t know what I’m going to do but I’d advise landlords to actually look into people before judging as you don’t know what someone is going through. I am facing homelessness and have never been so scared in my life!
