l contacted a landlord a few days ago about renting a room. but l was surprised by asking for a few very personal documents that are usually not disclosed to anyone. He asked for NI proof, 3 months payslips, 3 bank statements, my work details and contact… I don’t know if I should send those documents at the same time l need to rent as soon as possible. thanks for any clarifications
This is not unusual if you want the place you have to do it
The Landlord will want to verify your finances, work situation, income etc, so may need these for that purpose.
Actually first thing he/she should ask for is passport
@Zohir consider this from the landlords perspective he is looking at potentially letting a room to you how does he know that you can afford the room and will continue to be able to afford the room
By providing 3 months bank statements you are showing a regular income from employment as well as potentially any savings or issues you may have financially
By asking for work details the landlord is able to contact your management and confirm your pay is correct the job is guaranteed and not 0 hours etc as well as possibly getting a reference
A decent landlord should have a GDPR (data protection) policy in place and am sure would be happy to provide you with a copy or explain it to you on request
But this is nothing untoward or unusual the landlord simply could not just accept a potential tenants word that they earn £x a week/month as obviously anyone could claim anything
Hope this helps somewhat
