I have seen multiple discussions on this topic but I thought I should add to it. Hopefully, as more people complain OpenRent will finally address the issue.
My partner and I are in the process of renting a flat. My partner’s employer (a large US-based corporation) didn’t receive OpenRent referencing emails due to the IT system flagging them as phishing tentative. My partner’s manager decided to try with his personal email address but OpenRent marked the referee as unverified because of the email domain.
We are now directly in touch with our prospective landlord and hope providing an employment letter from HR or payslips will suffice.
I am not expecting an answer from OpenRent here as I don’t think they will be able to sort my case. Simply wanted to flag another instance where the referencing system failed.
