Uncertified electrician

I did extensive refurb on a flat including rewiring, new consumer unit and 2 years later I’ve had all kinds of electrics problems. I have now a new electrician in and he said the work done was atrocious and not compliant. I had obtained an EICR from when the refurb was done and the old electrician had said he was a “competent person for electrics under the building regulations”. is this the same as certified? Anyone faced this before? I would love to at least put a complaint in, but am not sure where to turn. Am now facing an £11k bill to redo everything and want to cry!

What does the original electrician say. Are you certain the new electrician is not over-stating the problem?

You really need a second opinion. See another electrician, make sure they are registered with NECEIC or other competent person scheme such as NAPIT. However being a member of either of these doesn’t in itself mean they are any good! Do your homework sourcing a good one.

Verify the credentials of the electrician who did it.

Get a breakdown of the problems and speak with the original electrician.

In my experience, you rarely find any trades-person, that does not criticise the work of previous trades-persons.

Really? I think that’s not realistic to tar everybody with that brush

He must be registered with a competent person scheme. Did you check/ask if he was at the time? As far as I know if they are self certifying their own work they must be registered. Otherwise you need building control to sign I think.

Did you get an invoice for the work done and any electrical certificates?
