I’m currently undergoing referencing by OpenRent. My work referee is my works payroll department that deals with references for us at the hospital. The referees problem is that they can’t click the link that OpenRent sends for the referencing as it’s against policy to click links outside of the organisation. But they can provide own referencing by email. I’m trying to explain this to OpenRent customer support but they are saying that it HAS to be completed by the link provided. I’ve called the line and one of the support team members said that there is definitely ways around it as some companies can’t click the link due to policy reasons and it’s a known problem. But at the moment I’m getting nowhere with this and it’s day 4 of my referencing. Can someone please give me some advice on what I should do I keep on contacting OpenRent regarding this but no one seems to understand and give me an alternative. I’ve contacted my landlord and he said he doesn’t deal with references and it’s up to OpenRent to sort this out.
that last part gave me pause for thought. I’m a LL and if you were my applicant, I’d be doing all I could to support you in this including suggesting alternatives to using OpenRent for referencing. The fact that your potential LL doesn’t seem to care less about the issue you’re facing (which is no fault of your own at all) is a bit of a red flag to me.
It makes me wonder what would happen if you were waiting weeks for a new boiler in winter. Would the LL simply say, “I don’t deal with boilers. It’s up to the engineer to sort this out.”
Are you absolutely desperate to move into this place?
@Klaudia7 have flagged your message to moderators asking if they can help sort out getting you the help you need from OR customer support
I understand @tatemono 's comment, tho sorting out sending the correct reference info to the referencing company [in this case OR but could be any company] really ought to be something the referencing co sort out between them, you and your employer - that’s what they are being paid for, after all. Only if you really really cant manage it should LL need to get involved. As you say, opening links from OR is a known issue previous people have faced so there will be known workarounds, you/your employer just need to find out what these are and persist. You say you’ve already been told these workarounds exist by the ‘support team’, sowhy didnt you find out what they were then and try them? I dont really follow what has happened and why you havent managed to resolved.
Just like I’d expect a gas engineer to agree dates for a service with you as tenant direct and LL only gets involved if it’s really proving impossible to find a mutually convenient date.

Try advice from OR given in these forums previously - copy below. They dont have to click on an external link to there should be no breach of the employer IT policy

Hi thank you for everyone’s replies!
I have managed to verify my income with using open banking. It didn’t work for me at the start that’s why it asked for my referee to complete the referencing. I thought it was very strange as I’ve connected and provided the right transactions. They have kindly reopened my application and I tried to connect with open banking again and it verified it this time without contacting my referee. Thank you for all the help either way
me and my partner are very keen on moving into our new home as we are expecting a baby so it was very important for us to get this done for the landlord.
so glad you made it work. Wow… moving house and a baby! No wonder you were stressed! I hope everything goes smoothly for you now and that your LL turns out to be great.
@Klaudia7 so glad it worked out
Good luck for future
I think you are not correct in assuming anything by the LLs unwillingness to “help out”. Firstly, because there’s nothing he can do with the process. It’s not in his hands. Secondly, he might need RGI and thus cannot skip OR referencing.
Do you like strawberries?
